Throwing The Ultimate Halloween PARTY!

Halloween is becoming more and more part of something we do in the UK. Every year there is more and items that you can find to you parties and get together. I have put a collection together of some of the things that are out there for your own Halloween party.

In our, house we have always carved pumpkins ever since I can remember and there was the odd disco in the village around Halloween, and we never had trick or treaters at our house until I moved to town as my drive was too long and dark and no one would dare to come up. I love this time of year so I decided that it was time we had our own party!! so we have sent the invites and planned the food and party games all ready for Sunday.

Here are a few on the products that we were given to review to make our party go off with a bang!!!

First there is the food, chocolate and cakes always go down a treat. We like to make as much as we can from Chocolate Eclairs and meringue ghosts to gingerbread cats, pumpkins and ghosts and Chocolate marshmallow crispy cakes!! Dr Oetker have a great range of cooking products to help with any event you are planning or just a bit of home cooking. With ready made icing in handy tubs which are great for the children to help decorate and a large range of decoration too. There are also the things you can’t see like a full range of flavorings from good old vanilla to anything like peppermint! Also, a great thing product is the egg white powder which was great for the meringue  and with no leftover yolks!! all great and easy to use and a lot of the products come with recipe cards which are great to try out. ranges from 99p

What party is not complete without chocolate and with it being Halloween there are great for the trick or treaters. Cadburys do there fun-size bars which are ideal for them or to go in a pinata well too! just enough chocolate to make you feel like you have had some without going over the top. great for the little ones too. Cadburys do a line in Halloween novelty chocolates  which add a little something different. The scream eggs went down a treat and only one made it to the party!! they are cream eggs but the fondant is green!! and crunchy spiders which are chocolate spiders with green crunchy bits in them, giving that real Halloween feel! available from around £1.30

The drink this is for adults only want to impress your friends with cocktails at your party or just have them at home without all the hassle of getting the ingredients and getting it right! well look no further than Funkin Cocktails, they are cocktails mixers in a cartoon ready for you to add the alcohol and ice and that pink umbrella all easy and simple to follow so you have more time to spend with your guests for just relaxing and they can easily be turned into themed cocktails like Zombie Run using the Funkin Brazilian mixer and some rum and Grenadine looks and tastes great. All the cocktails are made from 100% natural and only sun-ripened fruit so all natural flavour and goodness is retained. Retails at £2.99

Now for the decoration most shops these days have a Halloween range and we were lucky enough to get some samples from Morrisons, they have a huge range and items for all pockets so whether it is just some sweets for the trick or treaters, or you want to give them something a little different why not try their gingerbread charters, mummy’s or decorate your own and shortbread witches which went down great at the party too. Well the witch didn’t make it!!! For those party bags they have also sorts of things the pumpkin and torches were great and of course, we all love a Halloween glow stick. Morrisons also do everything you need from face paints and outfits, to food and decorations for the house along with the trick or treat novelty baskets for your little trick or treats to collect their goods in.

Aldi have good range of items to help with the party we were lucky enough to have a some scary products to help make out party a little more scary are great doorbell that will even shook grandpa! the kids thought this was funny!! and a scary funnily dressed dancing skeleton. That all important snack tray for the party. Aldi do a huge range to of halloween stuff from outfits to food and not forgetting the all important pumpkin!!

A party is never complete without a talking point and for this we have the most perfect Trick or Treat Balloon from BubbleGun Balloons. This company is amazing, they do the most unique and affordable Balloon bouquets or singles. When the box arrived I expected something small, the usual foil balloon, but on opening the huge box the most fantastic Balloon popped out!

It is huge, the string/bunting adds the best touch and it will just make the room look perfect!

Costumes, no party is complete without people in costumes. Mainly the children, they love a good costume. Peacocks have a fabulous range of Halloween costumes this year, they are so unique and beautiful. I am a little jealous if I’m honest 😛 They have really nailed it this year, with something for every child. The clothing is also incredibly well made, being from a company that already makes clothes, it’s too be expected, but still sometimes dressing up outfits can be a little flimsy. But Peacocks have it covered!

One I personally think is perfect to add something special to any outfit, a wig. Now I know like costumes, some synthetic wigs can be very, well naff, but Wag In A Bag from Stranded wigs have got the answer. Their stunning synthetic wigs are top quality, they are easy to brush, fabulous fitting to head with the means to make it the perfect size with the adjuster inside. They also keep really well in their “bags” which is great for storage. I think I have become a firm fan of Wag In Bag from Stranded wigs, they will be my go-to place for wigs for any occasion.

With the final touches come from facepaint and added extras. Smiffys is a trusted brand who delivers on the special effects makeup front. With single paints, spirit gum and face sets, Smiffys has everything you need to set your look apart from the rest. Even I remember Smiffys as a child, our local joke shop was loaded with fabulous and unique products, things the still carry on their online shop.

Next we have Hexbug and their Halloween goodies. Hexbugs are a classic, their vibrations make them scuttle around in a crazy but awesome fashion. They have a spooky range of bugs perfect for the spooky season! The perfect Hexbug NANO…

“The HEXBUG Nano is a tiny, collectible, micro robotic creature that uses the physics of vibration to propel forward and explore its environment. Powered by a tiny motor, and 12 fixed, angular legs, the industrious critter traverses the ground beneath it and quickly navigates through the most complex mazes. Possessing an uncanny sense of balance, it can even flip to its feet and zoom forward when turned on its back! When coming into contact with an object in its path, the energetic insect will switch directions and scurry away on a new path due to its persistent random behaviour. “

We have games at our party which means prizes!! we want spooky ones look no further than

Zombie apocalypse egg cup, spoon and toast cutter great also for a gift to for anyone who is into their zombies! The cutter can be used to guns, axes and swords out of your bread (instead of soldiers). With the egg cup the egg becomes the head of the zombie so when you break it open with the shovel spoon it looks like the head has been cracked!! Great product from £5.99

Or how about Weird slime workshop or Blood and guts workshop from Wild Science, these are a great gift or prize for party games in your own Halloween party. There are a range of science experiments to do in your own home safely. These are not just for Halloween they can be for any occasion. Everything you need in the box with instructions. Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer 3/2DS review

On Nintendo 3DS

You can be forgiven to think that Animal Crossing happy home designer is not a fully fledged Animal Crossing game, but it certainly is.

It also may not be the full Animal Crossing experience you have been waiting for and have come to know and love over the years, but this game oozes charm and is packed with familiar faces aswell as new ones. In fact, from what I have read regarding the Animal crossing Amiibo cards which we will cover later, there is 100 characters involved with this game one way or another.

The funny thing about the Animal Crossing games, is that you think it’s odd as an adult to enjoy and get into. Fact is my wife and I spent A LOT of time playing Wild World. And my daughter and I spent A LOT of time, playing New Leaf. (We have not spent near enough time playing Let’s go to the city, and I would have to sell a kidney for the Population: Growing! game). There is a surprising amount of Adult gamers that play and love the series, No matter their online status, and here I’m talking especially, The Nintendo life team (also seen to be Tomodachi Life fans :-)).

As a fully fledged villager having dabbled in stocking a museum, being a Mayor, there’s also a crucial role existing in the games.

The introduction to the game introduces you to the Happy home designer team as well as preparing your character. What’s this, Tom Nook again!?? Everyone’s favourite ludicrous business man is your new employer, as you will be working for Nook’s homes.

There is quite a generous Body feature palette to use to get your desired look.

Once you have constructed your character, reminding Tom and his vague memory of who you are, it’s time to meet your fellow colleagues, Lyle, Digby and Lottie.HNI_0034

The ability to transfer your New Leaf character/s here would have been a great touch, but you are starting from scratch.

Lottie will train you in your role and get’s you straight onto an assignment. But first you need to get into uniform. As well as the changing room being on the next floor, you will also notice a barber chair which you will be able to use to change your appearance when you want to change things up. Your work uniform is supposedly able to be accessorized in the changing room also.

Your first clients home will be immediately recognisable if you are a fan of the series. It’s a basic starter house. The client has a few prized possessions in a box that they would like you to incorporate in the design of the home. The rest of the items is upto to you. Using the items tool you will have a small selection of items. In this design you will learn all the basics you need to know about how to place, move, rotate and discard items. You may want to find out those spare stylus’ you have digging around for a mishap, as using one will certainly make thing’s easier.

When you feel that you have finished the room design, speak to the client who lingers near the door. they will give you hints if the job is not quite finished, and r, you may not have noticed that there are now other items and tabs now available in the toolbox.

Once you have the seal of approval from the client, your work on this home is done.

The previous games have had a different way to save your progress. (And be badgered by  Resseti the Mole if you haven’t saved the next time) So it’s no surprise that the save feature has changed once again. This time around you will need to go to your desk at Nook’s homes and start your  notes. Saving is also automatic after each job you finish.

A mere ten minutes into trying this game, my Daughter is desperate to get on this and try it out. Though she’s wanting a girl character, not a male character and playing as Daddy. So we need to restart the game, or, I would have thought, exit the game and choose a new character at the menu. Creating a new character is not as straight forward as it was on New Leaf. The option to restart your game is somewhat hidden and you are restricted to just one character profile. To create a new character you will need to press and hold YXAB at the same time as soon as the Nintendo 3DS logo appears and before the title screen, a box will pop up asking you if you are sure you want to delete. All of this information will be in the games manual and I do highly recommend you read it prior to playing. If you have the digital game, there is a manual option at the games menu.

Watching my daughter nurturing her budding interior design was eye-opening. Placing objects in a way that at first glance I thought was wrong, but on closer inspection, ways I wouldn’t have thought of that also makes sense as it creates an illusion of freeing up more space while looking like a natural position. I feel this has been more of a learning curve to watch my daughter work away than what I would have learned from filling out the rooms in my own way.

Here’s some of my favourite picks of her creations

The game may be called Happy Home Designer, but you will be asked to design an array of building’s, not just homes. A face you should certainly remember is the hard-working Isabelle. she will be handling requests for public facilities to be built.

What is a nice touch is that aswell as designing homes for people, you will also be responsible for where the homes will be positioned on the village map. The clients will give you some preferences as to the area and surroundings they feel will be ideal for them, however i get the feeling they are quite easily pleased. Other factors that will be included in the clients needs will be thing’s such as a play area if they have children, amenities a garden and a variety of other things. You will also be s for the design and layout of these so your work will be both indoors and outdoors.HNI_0052

Along the way you will unlock expressions your character can use to interact with other animals. They are accessible on the touch screen by tapping the happy cat icon.

Your main hub will be a town area around your office. Any boarded  will be upcoming projects for you which you can start by talking to Isabelle.

From what I have played you will not be able to quite roam the village, but you will be able to visit existing clients houses. After all, like the weather their taste and needs will change.

I can honestly say, the home design aspect of A C New Leaf was not my strong point, and something I did not care much for. But having playedthis, and in the short space of time seeing my daughters imagination take hold and learn valuableidea’s of her furnishing positioning. It would make me return to New Leaf (and hopefully future A C games) with a new fondness and understanding of layout and design.

If this is your cup of tea an you’re an A C fan then you will be delighted to know that A C will have its own range of Amiibo cards, and as mentioned earlier, 100 ofthem so far and a special Animal Crossing Amiibo cards collectors book to keep them in.

Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer Amiibo collectors cards are to play quite a big role in the game. You can use them to invite other villagers to a clients home, the animals will interact with each other and should the visiting animal take preference to a piece of furniture they have seen, this will be ‘stored’ on the system memory when you touch the Amiibo card to the NFC, which will be the touch screen on the ‘new’ 3DS, and by using an NFC portal (purchased separately) with the 3 & 2DS systems. The furniture the animal remembers will be added to your catalogue and can be accessed by using the Amiibo phone, located in the Nook Homes offices. The Amiibo phone will also allow you to call clients to offer any further help with their home design. You can also get the visiting animal to remember any furniture you like to be used on future projects.

As usual with a lot of games you can screen shot (take photo’s) pressing L and R shoulder buttons together, be sure to take photos of your projects and whatever catches your eye. Your images will be saved to your SD card so you can put them on your Computer and share via fan sites and social media, and create projects of your favourite moment’s or memories of the Animal crossing series. There is also the option to share to the Miiverse by tapping the icon on the touchscreen.

15 October, 2015: ‘Cast Life – A Parent’s Guide to DDH’ is out today and will offer a much needed, long overdue life line to parents with children suffering from Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH).

DDH occurs when the ball and socket of the hip joint do not fit snugly together and whilst it affects between one and three children in every thousand, information and support is shockingly poor leaving parents feeling confused about what happens next.

Inspired by her son who was diagnosed at four months, the author, Natalie Trice, knows all too well that whilst DDH is not life threatening, it certainly is life changing.

Natalie passionately believes that there needs to be more awareness of DDH, which if left untreated, can lead to long term disability, hip replacements and life long pain.

Cast Life is a comprehensive book that covers everything from easy to understand explanations about the condition and the treatments involved to the products available to make life easier for children in casts. It also looks at family life, dealing with emotions as well including first person stories and parent comments.

Professor N. M. P. Clarke ChM, DM, FRCS Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, who wrote the foreword for Cast Life, commented, ““DDH is one of the most common congenital abnormalities and it is remarkable that there is so little information out there. This book is essential reading for the parents of children with the condition, as well as health professionals working with them, and I would love to see it in all clinics around the world.”

Natalie added, “When a child is diagnosed with any illness, the parents often feel overwhelmed and want know as much about the condition as possible. When Lucas was diagnosed with DDH I was terrified and my initial search for information threw up horrific images and worst-case scenarios that simply compounded my fear.

“With Lucas facing more surgery this autumn, I am really pleased to have done something to help others as I know how hard the waiting and recovery periods are. Cast Life isn’t loaded with medical jargon, but it gives the reader the knowledge and facts they need to get to grips with DDH so they regain a little bit of control and power in what can be a tough situation.”

Cast Life is available on Amazon in the UK and US and Natalie has also set up Spica Warrior [] a charity offering information about DDH, 10% of the royalties will be going to this cause, and blogs about the condition at
