I Am A Stay At Home Mum Who Sits In Her Slippers All Day.

Yes, according to a certain person on ITV’s This Morning, has said that stay at home mums should simply not complain about this new proposal to pay working mums for childcare, because we simply sit around in our slippers, supposedly doing nothing.

Because it was our choice.

The lovely woman who suggested it was none other than Katie Hopkins. Yes, this woman was both condescending and judgemental towards all stay at home mums.

Both myself and other mothers and families on twitter are fuming at her unfair generalisation of stay at home parents.

Each person makes a choice, one that has the best interests of their family at heart, being a stay at home mother or father, is far from an easy or lazy choice, its hard work, its 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

The choices made are all unique to each family situation, no stay at home parent should be judged for making this choice.

For this little family, the fact I stay home, and will probably always have to stay home is now because I have numerous disabilities. Some on the outside but many on the inside, I also have support when my husband goes to work, because lets face it, he needs to work, especially these days.

I did not know about this before I had Beboo and certainly not before Pops. Before I had children I was different, I did not have multiple sclerosis, to my knowledge, therefore could not, in a million years have predicted our future.

Do I think parents who both go back to work should be given said money, well not if they earn between 80 – 150K plus a year I don’t, why the hell to they need it?! Under this then yes, why not? Its their choice.

Fact of the matter is, each person or family makes a choice with their best interests at heart, stay at home mums for whatever reason, should not be made out to be lazy and money grabbing.

Katie Hopkins should be ashamed of herself.

I challenge her to look after my children for 48 hours and tell me its easy!

  1. I do wonder sometimes if she deliberately does this to keep herself in the lime light and get publicity! She needs to walk in another’s shoes before making such outrageous comments!

    1. I think she really needs to think about her wording, one day she will simply say something she can not take back.
Its people like her, narrow minded and selfish, that make me want to scream!!! x

  2. I have to say as another stay at home mum I am just as angry as you!!! Yes being a working mum is hard but so is being a stay at home mum. I wish all I did was sit on my bum all day, if only all those fairies were around to help, you know the ones, the cleaning, cooking and washing fairies 😉
I think people forget that being a mum is a full time job in itself, you don’t get a day off.

    1. I agree, she was so out of order. I challenge her to do our day simply sat down, in a pair of slippers!! She was incredibly rude! x

  3. I agree (although, to be fair, I am sitting here in my slippers typing away).

I thought I recognised the face of Katie Hopkins but had to google her to place her (she of the Apprentice fame). I suspect her comments, as ever, have a large degree of publicity-seeking about them. (I’m finding it hard not to say something unsisterly). Judge not, as they say.

On the up side, at least her comments don’t represent official government policy (yet).

    1. I hope it never becomes policy! Ha! I was sat in my onesie, but wouldnt be for the whole day! Ergh people like her make me so angry! xx

  4. So far today I’ve got the kids up, fed them and walked them to school….I’ve changed the beds, hoovered all of upstairs, been shopping for milk and stuff to make a corned beef pie which I have made, tidied the house, done the dishes, , ….Just going to put the 2nd load of washing on the line…and managed to enter comps on twitter….So much for sat doing nothing!! lol

    1. And WHY did you not come and do my housework?! LOL. See that is so much, I am sure some das we would rather have jobs, if just for five minutes peace and some adult conversation. She knows nothing x

  5. Great post and I missed this! I work three days a week but this week went on maternity leave for the third time. I have found it hard being at home with my children. I am a slave to my children – which is cool! Cooking, cleaning, playing, cant just pop to the shops, can’t eat, drink a cuppa, find my slippers…adult conversation very little. I totally agree with your post! Thank you for sharing. x

    1. Thank you for commenting! I agree, I dont think I know where mine are either! I hate the stigma attatched with it all, SAHM’s should be people who are admired, for their hard work, we dont get a day off, the best conversation I get is the dog some days! x

  6. The problem with this woman is her whole personality – she is a cheap attention seeker, thriving on publicity and a Liz Jones style facade. Having her on a TV show, newspaper, magazine etc, will only increase viewers, ratings and readers, and this, for the media, can only be a positive thing. The fact that she’s a stupid, arrogant and lame example of a woman means nothing. But to us hard working people, she might as well keep her opinions to herself because we know what we do is worth a hundred times what she stands for.

    1. Too true, I just dont see how someone can get by saying things like this. She needs a reality check and to do something that matters for a change. Riling people and making them angry is not the way to go, its the way to flaming poop on the door step!! x

  7. Housework is still not a job though. Working parents have to actually go to work all day, and then come home and do all the jobs you do during the day whilst your children are at school. You might think being a stay at home parent is a job, but being a working parent is like having two jobs.

    1. Housework is not my job, being a mum and parent is not my job, it a choice, one people should be free to make. My children are not at school. I was stating that her example of SAHM sitting on there bums in their slippers is wrong. Some days I am lucky if I see a chair.

  8. I just learned who she is and became angry with her all at once! As an at-home dad, some days I dream of having a desk job again, just so I can drink coffee without someone trying to stick their fingers in it, or not have anyone follow me into the toilet, or have a few minutes without the dire pleads and protestations of a little person who can’t yet reach anything he needs, or …. the list goes on.

I’m fond of saying that my job isn’t particularly difficult — what skill set do you really need to wipe a dirty bum — but it’s THE MOST EXHAUSTING thing I’ve ever done.

    And worth every minute.

    1. Too true! That is my life to tee! Thank you for commenting. I find she was THE most narrow minded person alive. I challenge her to do this day in day out! x
