The Alternative Mothers Day Gift Guide

So, mothers day is a great excuse to spoil or be spoilt. Lets face it, we all love a treat and with so much out there on offer I thought I would do an alternative gift guide for Mothers day. Things you probably wouldn’t think of in the long run, but would make a really fab gift, so here we go!

First up we have Bonds confectionary. I don’t know about you but I love sweets!

bonds confec

Its the one thing you really can’t go wrong with no matter what you choose. Bonds confectionary do these really lovely jars, perfect for that little something, or even for adding to something bigger? These jars start at around £2.99, and there are so many different sweets to choose from, you really can’t go wrong.

The jars themselves are great for using afterwards to, so it kind of keeps on giving. Sweets don’t last too long in this house, and before you start pointing the finger, it’s Hubby not me! Nut these fit perfectly under my side of the bed and I am the only person that goes under there!

Bonds confectionary do a big variety of sweets and retro sweets, so maybe you could put together a sweet blast from the past? Now thats an idea.

Next is something both myself and my Mum like, Pukka Green teas.

pukka

These are fairtrade, carefully sourced teas, giving the best flavour you could ask for. Used for cleansing and as an alternative to normal tea, these would make the perfect gift.

Filled with antioxidants and all the good stuff we need, Pukka have created and really fantastic product. Both ethical and delicious!

Pukka green teas retail for around £1.99 an would make the perfect addition to a Mothers day hamper. They also come in mint, lemon and spiced, so something for everyone’s tastes.

phone case

Next is a phone case from Wrappz.

I decided to pop my blog logo on mine, but you could use a favorite photo or a funny phrase. Wrappz really do have something for everyone and have cases for a wide variety of phones. They also do these really great skins for phones, ipads, tablets and gaming consoles, you could even get a free skin using the code FREESKIN.

The case I ordered came in around 2-3 days and it fits my phone perfectly, its lasted some real wear and tear. Wrappz also do a host of other personalised products, from mugs to pillow cases, there is something for everyone.

Speaking or personalised, next we have Photobox and their personalised cookbook!

This is such and amazing idea, especially if you have a mother like mine. She has her own cookbook which she has put together over many, many years. Its battered and covered in food, some is even illegible. So this would be the perfect keepsake.

Of course you would have to figure out some way to prize that book out of her hands, but thats nothing a good bottle of something nice couldn’t fix! This way it will also mean its easy to read AND can be kept for man, many more years to come! Fabulous.

My Blue Nose Friends Jan launch 2014

Something for cuteness up next, Tatty Teddies Blue Nose friends.

These are the latest addition to the infamous Tatty Teddy collection and they really are beautiful. I think Pops may have been more excited than myself, but these truly are the perfect teddy, as always they are beautifully made and the characters themselves are really fun.

If you’re looking for that perfect Mothers day gift, then Tatties Blue Nose friends really are a must have. Retailing at around £5 each they are great for that something extra special and a really beautiful keepsake (or toy if you have my children) A real classic and a perfect gift for any occasion really.

Next is some lovely Banoffee Coffee from Cherizena.

Banoffee Pie

I am a huge Cherizena fan, their coffee is second to none and the flavours are amazing. This new banoffee flavour did not disappoint. Its a filter coffee, but as they give such an amazing flavour, I don’t mind.  A packet this size is around £3.00, but it will make well over 6 cups of coffee.

When I heard about the new flavour I was a little unsure about how they would work together, but they really do come together really well. A little milk and sugar and it really is like a banoffee pie. Its perfect for that something different.

Cherizena do lots of different flavoured coffees, so something to suit every palate. They are affordable and the delivery is super fast. They are a really trusted brand in this house.

virtual bathrooms

Next we have something a little different, extreme maybe, but a fantastic idea nonetheless.

What Mother doesn’t want a new bathroom, or even something lovely to go in it? Well the lovely people over at Virtual Bathrooms have this great feature which lets you virtually design your new bathroom. You can put together a lovely new bathroom suite, complete with furniture. Personally something like that would make my day. What us Mothers wouldn’t give to have a lovely hot bath ALONE, child and ducky free!

Well, thats your lot. I hope you find something a little bit different for this mothers day.

It’s Still There

I have been a little quiet about my MS recently. There are a few reasons why, I guess?

I know for a fact it’s still there, lets face it, its never going away, right?

Since starting my Tysabri, I have been feeling ‘better’ as better as someone like me can feel anyway. I still tire and have all the other usual symptoms, however I have felt a little more rounded.

Not in the shape sense, well that could be a lie but its nothing a pair of big girl pants can’t fix.

I guess for me its the fact I am different, that is what is holding me back at the moment. Pop’s now goes to school and is starting to ask more questions about why I am poorly, she will start to notice I am not like the other Mums.

Other Mums will also notice I am not like they are. Hubby usually takes Pops to school and picks her up, for various reasons, however I do try and go when I can and when I do go, I make sure I am right at the front, but I am sure other Mums will notice.

Next is the burden that is me. People can tell me I am not a burden, but that will not stop me from feeling like one. To go out whether it be to appointments or just the park, I can’t do it alone. I could give it a damn good go, but that would not be fair on the girls, using my ears alone to tell if there is a car coming is so not reliable enough.

This means I need someone, people have to sometimes change plans and drop things for me. It’s not a nice feeling I can assure you.

Also, my left eye is basically completely blind now. I only told Hubby this last week because he hadn’t asked previous. I think he was shocked, however I am not fussed, I would rather have a blind eye than a useless, still works a bit kind of eye.

I have come to terms with it and so has my body, its no big deal.

Depression, this one sneaks up on me all the time, I don’t know why and I cannot explain it, but its happening again. I don’t want to get lost in it again, but sometimes the only way to face it, is embrace it. So who knows what I will need to do this time.

And right now, I have a cold coming and anyone with MS knows a tiny cold, can become and feel like so much more. Most don’t bat an eye lid but for me, its a bitch.

I have been trying to carry on and block out the lovely disease that has graced me its presence, but sometimes after a fight, I need a break for a bit, I need to let the pissy days happen and feel sorry for myself for a while.

Watch this space, or not, depending on your preference.

Totally Funky Gingerbread Man Wallet Review And Comp

Recently, I have been putting a new wallet through its paces. Its a really beautiful wallet from the people over at Totally funky, its the fairytale gingerbread man wallet.

totally funky wallet

I really love the detail in the Gingerbread man wallet, from the labelling to the little gingerbread man keyring, they really have covered everything and made it something really different.

I especially love the fairytale characters on the front and the back and the writing which reads ‘you can’t catch me’

I don’t know about you, but I like to have something different, something that I cannot simply go out to the shops and by, just like everyone else and that is what this wallet was. It was unique, most of the products on the Totally Funky website are just that, totally funky and really different which I love.

This wallet has two main compartments on the inside, a zip pocket in the middle of the two and card compartments on each side. It also has a little pocket on the front!

It even has this really cute label on the inside!

Although fairly different to most wallets, it does have a good amount of space and I am one of those people who have a discount card for everything, so I really do have an inordinate amount of cards. Nevertheless, they all safely fit in with room to spare!

The wallet is both beautiful and strong, I usually buy cheap ones which last me all of five minutes, but I have a feeling this one will last me a while! I was really impressed.

The Fairytale Gingerbread man wallet retails for £19.99 and is worth every penny.

The Totally funky website has loads of different things for sale and there really is something for everyone. The customer service and delivery times were great and I will surely be shopping there in the future!

I’m not the Same

I am not the ‘perfect’ mum. I don’t have ‘perfect’ hair. I don’t wear ‘perfect’ clothes or have a ‘perfect’ body. I am in no way shape or form anyone’s definition of normal. At times I even need to use a support stick or signal cane when I am out and about. But why does any of this give people a reason to judge me?!

I am no stranger to different, in-fact I love it. The reason why I love it so much is because being the same as everyone else is just plain boring, it might work for some people but not for me. I guess in a way that comment might sound like i’m judging others, but that is not the case, I don’t double take or ignore people who don’t look like me or who are just normal. But people seem to think its okay to do this to me, because I look or seem ‘odd’

I find myself in these situations alot and I really don’t know why, I suppose it is why I tend to stick to the company who know me for me and not the way I look. I myself have judged people for many reasons in the past, but that has changed now. I guess it was a combination of growing up, my MS and my own journey I am on trying to find out more about myself. I in no way see myself or the way I think as ‘perfect’ Its simply my opinion.

It makes me wonder why people judge each other so often. What is it about other people that we actually judge? Is it the way they look? Is it how they sound or the clothes they wear? I don’t think anybody really knows why, but we all seem to do it.

I feel the reason why so many people judge me is because I look different. I have chosen to express myself and mark important life events (which right now I am keeping to myself) by using tattoos. Alot of which are on my chest as I like to be able to see them and enjoy them, as they are for me and no-else. Granted its a prominent place, but why not? Here they are:

Yes these are all part of me and I am yet to be finished. The point is I am still me, I am a fun and friendly mum of two and I am no different (apart from MS and its effects) to any other mummy! I love my kids and they love me regardless of being covered in tattoos. I just wish some people would get to know me without judging me at first glance. That’s why I love my blog, because it essentially is me and what I find important and funny, no judgements or falseness. This post was in no way meant to offend anyone, just bring to light that some people might look different or strange on the outside but are actually lovely people, with their owns stories. My MS makes people that know me look at me differently, it has shown me who, in my life really loves me for me, no matter who I am or who I turn out to be.
Thanks for reading.
